Brian Cox had the following question about YouView:
“I’m interested in the new YouView box. I see it has subtitles for hard of hearing people, like me,but does it record them?”
Recording subtitles
Brian’s correct that YouView supports subtitles. We’ve tested this on the Humax DTR-T1000 YouView box, and confirm that subtitles are indeed supported. The Humax YouView box also supports AD (Audio description), and on some on-demand content, sign language is also supported on this box according to the manual.
As for recording subtitles, that’s a “yes”. We don’t have subtitles on by default, but checked an existing recording we’d made a few days back, pressed the DEL/SUB button, and subtitles appeared on the recorded programme.

YouView Boxes
If you’re looking to get a YouView box, you have a couple of option:
- Buy the box for a one-off payment: YouView Humax from Amazon or YouView Humax from Currys
- Or, get a free box from BT – they’re supplying the Humax T1000 we’ve looked at here: YouView from BT (You can also get a box from TalkTalk, but it’s not the Humax box: YouView from TalkTalk)
