Question
Although the main town where we live gets a good London signal, we cannot because we are on the wrong side of a big hill. We thus rely on a poor signal from another transmitter. At some expense, we have put up a big aerial and a preamplifier for our main receiver. However, we also have two Sony portable receivers which we used in different parts of the house with a set top aerial. These no longer work even with a digibox. It would be too costly to provide similar aerials for these two and in any case that would make them no longer portable. Any suggestions?

Our Answer
The question was received before the London Digital Switchover completed in April 2012, so we suggested that Louis might see a power increase after the switchover completed. Many found that once the power increased, an aerial that can’t get Freeview very well may stand a better chance.
Otherwise, our suggestion was to look at either an aerial distribution system (aerial points in each room), or running aerial extension cables to the rooms where you want to be able to watch TV. A TV aerial supports multiple TV sets, so if you have a good TV aerial, all you need to do is plug your portable sets into that aerial.
One other option is to consider a wireless AV Video Sender, which will re-transmit the output of a digibox to other TV sets wirelessly.
