I want HD Movies but Sky is too expensive

Posted on 13 May 2011 By TV and Tech No Comments on I want HD Movies but Sky is too expensive

Question

I am thinking of cancelling Sky+ hd as it is getting too expensive. However, my hubby likes his movies in hd. We have a new Panasonic TV with built in Freeview. What do you think ?

Our Answer

Sky provides a wide range of HD TV channels, and lots of HD movies, but the price of the Sky Movies package, plus the additional Sky HD subscription fee does add up. There are a few alternatives though:

  • Consider Virgin Media HD if you are in a cable area (there’ll be a subscription fee though)
  • Consider getting a Blu-Ray player and rent HD movies from a local Blockbuster-type store (no subscription), or the likes of LoveFilm (for postal delivery)
  • Consider an Internet-based HD movie rental service, such as Apple TV. This will let you watch HD movies on demand. Once you have paid for the box, you only pay for what you watch.
  • Connect your computer to your TV and watch HD movies over the Internet, using one of the many online movie services such as LoveFilm or Blinkbox
Apple TV Box
