Catch-up Recordings on Sky+

Posted on 26 January 2012 By TV and Tech No Comments on Catch-up Recordings on Sky+

Recent Shows on Sky Plus

We had the following question from Sarah Betchley :

My Sky+ installer told me that it was possible to go back and record a program that had been on a maximum of 24 hrs before. I can not find out how to do this. Can you help please?

It depends what programmes you’re looking for, but there are a couple of options:

Sky Anytime

A small selection of  recent TV shows and movies automatically get downloaded to your Sky+ box drive when the box is idle. This is what’s known as the Sky Anytime service. What you’ll find there is only a small selection, and the content is mostly series that have been shown on Sky One, Sky Atlantic or the other mainstream Sky channels.

To see what’s there, go to your Sky planner, and press the red button labelled “Sky Anytime”. Here’s a screenshot to show what the main Sky Anytime screen looks like. Shows typically stay here for about a week, but you can select one and mark it with the Record button so the show is transferred to your Guide and can be watched whenever you want

Sky Go / Sky Anytime +

If you have Sky Broadband, you can access some of Sky’s shows on-demand from your Sky+ box. Again, only a small amount of content is available, but it’s a wider choice than you’ll find on Sky Anytime.

If you don’t have Sky Broadband, then there is the Sky Go service, which lets you access recent shows online from your computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. More details: Sky Go Website

On Demand Services

If the show you’re looking for was on the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 or Channel 5, then note that each of those services offers a web-based on-demand service. These are not avaiulable directly on a Sky+ box, but are available using computers as well as some games consoles, tablets and smartphones. Here are the links:

  • BBC iPlayer
  • ITV Player
  • 4oD (4 On Demand)
  • Demand 5

We hope you find what you’re looking for.
