Question
I have a caravan that is unable to get TV or satellite signal (we are in a dip in the land). What are the alternatives, as I have a telephone?
Our Answer
If you can’t get TV via an aerial or a satellite dish, then that’s Freeview, Freesat and Sky out of the picture. We’d assume Virgin Media’s cable service is a no-go too.
That leaves one of the various TV-over-Internet services as a possibility.
If you have a phone line, then you should be able to get Broadband Internet, and with a broadband connection, you can access Internet TV services such as BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, Channel 4 on Demand, Sky Player. With these services, you can watch live TV and get access to catch-up TV shows to watch recent content.
Using an Internet connection, you should also be able to watch live TV using a service called TV Catchup which offers streaming TV via your web browser, iPhone and even some games consoles.
One word of warning though. If you’re looking to watch a lot of content over the Internet, you need to look at the download allowance offered by your broadband provider. Watching streaming TV uses a lot of data, and your broadband provider normally caps your connection. limiting you to a certain amount of data per month. Check out how much data your broadband provider allows – this is normally measured in GB (gigabytes)
