Question: I want to get Sky+, but it seems Sky don’t supply Sky+ any more. Help!
First off, we should explain that the term Sky+ actually refers to the service, and not the satellite receiver box. Sky+ is the ability to record telly programmes onto hard-disk, pause live TV, and perform series link using a box.
In February 2010, Sky stopped supplying the Sky+ box (pictured above). Instead, Sky is supplying the Sky+ HD box.
Why? Probably in a drive to get people to move over to HD
This can actually be seen as a good thing. For the same price as a Sky+ box, Sky will supply their HD box. This does everything that the older Sky+ box did, and is also capable of getting High Definition TV channels.
To get the 30+ HD channels offered by Sky, you have to take out an HD subscription (£10 for the HD pack), but this is optional. If you don’t sign to to the Sky HD package, you’ve got a Sky+ box (that can also get BBC HD – which doesn’t need a subscription).
How do I get Sky+ HD installed?
Order a Sky+ HD installation online at sky.com/shop – Sky will dispatch an installer to you. The installer will fit a dish (if you don’t have one), and run two cables from the dish to wherever you want the Sky+ HD box to sit.
